Democratization moves should continue

After a meeting between Turkish President Abdullah Gul and representatives of NGOs in Istanbul, TOBB Chairman Rifat Hisarciklioglu told reporters that they strongly condemned terrorism."We all agree that violence cannot be solved through violence. We, 17 NGOs, also agree that Turkey should not give up steps it will take for democratization and should not fall behind in human rights and freedoms," Hisarciklioglu said.President Gul and NGOs hold the meeting to discuss recent escalation of terrorist acts in the country.Gul said on Thursday the recent attacks of the terrorist PKK organization had shown that it was acting in panic.Terrorist attacks in Turkey have escalated over the last couple of weeks as eleven troops were killed in an ambush in southeast Turkey at the weekend.On Tuesday, a roadside bomb rocked a bus carrying military personnel and their families in Istanbul, killing four soldiers and the 17-year-old daughter of an officer.On Thursday, two soldiers and one civilian were killed in a terrorist ambush in the eastern province of Elazig.Cumhuriyet
